Shimla

Shimla exemplifies the pinnacle of nature’s creativity that garners affection with picturesque alpine hills and refreshingly cool climate. The Mall Road

Mall Road is the most happening place in Shimla located below the ridge. It is edged with fancy showrooms, cafes, restaurants, Himachal emporium and shopping stores. The place comes to life in the evening when it is illuminated with colorful lights. One can enjoy its lively ambience by taking a walk and relish drool-inducing food in famous restaurants. The famous Gaiety Theatre is one of the popular attractions that you should not miss.     

Jakhoo Hill

The hill is the highest peak of Shimla which is mainly frequented for the ancient Jakhoo temple. It is located 2 km away from the city at a height of 2,455 m. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and you can reach it by a ropeway, foot or riding horse. It is said that Lord Hanuman halted here while searching for Sanjeevni herb to revive Lakshmana. The main attraction is the colossal 108-feet-high idol of Hanuman.

Christ Church

Go back in time with a visit to this ancient church which also happens to be the second oldest church in North India. It is located on the Mall Road which makes it easy to reach. Admire the Neo-Gothic style of architecture that will teleport you to the charming world of British era. The main thing that grabs attention is the five stained glass windows that represent the virtues of Christians.

Shimla State Museum

The museum is a great place to know about the culture of Himachal Pradesh. It was set up in 1974 to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the state. The art galleries showcase an interesting collection of miniature Pahari paintings, historical coins, handicrafts, photos, sculptures and more objects exceeding 9000 in number. Some popular galleries include Himachal archaeology, Arms Gallery, Pahari Miniature paintings, Gandhi Gallery and prehistoric objects. 

Kali Bari Temple

Kalibari temple is a popular place of tourist interest situated on Mall Road. It was built in 1845 dedicated to Goddess Kali, who is also known by the name of Shyamala. People who visit Shimla also visit this age-old temple of historical and religious importance. It was originally set up in Jakhoo Hill, but Britishers brought the shrine to the present site in later years

How to reach

By Air- It is backed by good air connectivity handled by Shimla airport located in Jubarhatti, 23 km away; it offers daily flights to Delhi. The nearest major airport is Chandigarh Airport at a distance of 116 km.

By Rail- Kalka Shimla Railway, a narrow-gauge railway track is available to reach Shimla from Kalka. It is particularly famous for covering mountain route with 102 tunnels offering majestic views of mountains and villages. You can reach Kalka by train from any prime city like Delhi.

By Road- Private and public transport services are available to reach Shimla from nearby cities. Regular buses are available from cities like Chandigarh, Delhi, Manali and Dharamshala.
