What to see

  • City Palace & Museum

The iconic landmark of the city is a hilltop palace facing Lake Pichola. This incomparable beauty built by Mewar dynasty from 1559, took 400 years to complete. It represents a splendid fusion of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The beauty will take you back in the era of luxury and beauty with its hypnotizing features. A walk in the palace will show you its numerous gateways called Pols, Sheesh Mahal, Rang Bhawan, Krishna Vilas, Amar Vilas and Manak Mahal.

  • Saheliyo-ki-Bari

Saheliyo-ki-Bari meaning Garden of Maidens is a beautiful garden from the period of Maharajas. It was built by Rana Sangram Singh for his queen and her accompanying 48 attendants. History says that he himself constructed and beautified it with ornamental flowers, sculptures of elephants, lotus pool, fountains and kiosks. The location on the bank of famous Fateh Sagar Lake multiplies its magnificence.

  • Jagdish Temple

Located just outside City Palace, it is the largest temple in Udaipur dedicated to Lord Jagannath (a form of Lord Vishnu or Lord Krishna). This temple draws many tourists with its exemplary Māru-Gurjara architecture ornamented with intricate carvings. To reach the main temple, a flight of 32 steps needs to be climbed. It leads to a sizeable brass image of Garuda, the vahana of Lord Vishnu. With a steeple nearly 79 ft. high, it also houses shrines of Shiva, Ganesha, Sun and Goddess Shakti. 

  • Monsoon Palace

One of the big attractions in Udaipur is this gorgeous hilltop palace which is also known as Sajjan Garh Palace. It is named after Maharaja Sajjan Singh of the Mewar Dynasty. The main reason behind its construction was to make an astronomical centre to track monsoon clouds. But due to the premature death of the Maharaja, it was turned into a palace and a hunting lodge. The best thing is the panoramic view of Udaipur that it offers.

  • Fateh Sagar lake

Fateh Sagar Lake is one of the seven lakes in Udaipur that render it the sobriquet 'City of Lakes'. The mesmerizing beauty with placid water and the backdrop of wavy mountains make it an idyllic spot for pleasant solitude. Opt for a boat ride to relish the beauty of the lake that also boasts three islands. These islands are worth visiting with interesting places like Nehru Park and Udaipur Solar Observatory.

How to reach

By Air- Dabok airport, also known as Maharana Pratap Airport is the nearest airport located about 20 km from Udaipur. It handles regular flights cities to like Delhi and Mumbai.

By Rail- The city two railway stations: Udaipur City railway station and Rana Pratap Nagar railway station. Trains are available to several major cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Chittorgarh, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur, Agra and Khajuraho.

By Road- Udaipur is easily accessible from all cities of India with a good network of roads.
