Khajuraho

Seductively beautiful and immaculately embellished, Khajuraho has been luring passerby since the time of legends. It is a Group of Monuments binding together 25 Hindu and Jain temples so powerful that makes your head swim. Chandela dynasty built this masterpiece during 950 AD – 1050 AD in the place which now comes in Madhya Pradesh. Its picturesque location lies within Vindhya Mountains near water bodies viz. Sib Sagar, Khajur Sagar and Khudar Nadi (river). Their classic Nagara style of architecture and erotic sculptures are recognition of beauty and creativity. It is for their aesthetic craftsmanship and mind-blowing history that UNESCO included it in the list of World Heritage sites.

Parshvanatha temple

It is the largest Jain temple in Khajuraho that commands strong attention with its grandeur. The temple was built in the 10th century dedicating to 23rd Jain Tirthankara, Parsvanatha. Although it is a Jain temple, it astonishes visitors with the architectural influence of Vaishnavite features. Get lost in the distinctive characteristics and admire the beautiful sculptures adorning the walls.

Adinatha temple

Named after and dedicated to 1st Jain Tirthankara, Adinath, it is another Jain temple with an undying charm of the lost world. You can easily notice its stark resemblance with the Vamana temple, a temple in Eastern group of temples. What attracts people is the big black basalt statue of Lord Adinath with inscriptions dated to the year 1027.

Kandariya Mahadeva Temple

The name translates into 'the Great God of the Cave', which accredits it as the largest and most ornate Hindu temple in Khajuraho. It is a part of the Western Group of Temples and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The sanctum sanctorum is sanctified with the idol of Lord Shiva. In addition to it, the temple will enthrall you with 646 statues and 800 carved sculptures.

Chaturbhuj Temple

Also called Jatakari, this temple is the only one that faces sunrise and features no erotic sculptures. It is a part of the Southern Group of temples and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The centre of admiration is a 2.7 m tall idol of four-armed Lord Vishnu which refers to its name Chaturbhuj meaning four-armed. Other attractions are finely carved incised paintings that evoke curiosity.

Javari Temple

Javari Temple is a Hindu temple built between c. 975 and 1100 AD. It is primarily dedicated to Lord Vishnu; however, the main idol now exists in dilapidated condition. You can find it in the Eastern group of Temples. It shares many similarities with Chaturbhuja temple with sculptures of other Hindu deities Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
