Those having keenness for temples must visit Mahabalipuram, one of the oldest cities of India. Sthalasayana Perumal Temple here is one of the 108 popular temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Shore Temple lures everyone with its picturesque melange of a clear blue sky and azure sea. Arjuna’s Penance is also a must visit attraction of Mahabalipuram. This is a huge open-air sculpture adorned with intricate detailing on the rocks. It is home to 8 Rock-Cut Cave Temples which look priceless.

Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu is renowned due to its arts, culture and religion. Kanyakumari Temple here is one of the 108 Shakti Peethas in Hindu mythology. Vivekananda Rock Memorial of Kanyakumari can only be accessed by taking a ferry ride. It is believed that Swami Vivekananda attained enlightenment on the rock here. Suchindrum is a fine example of distinctive Dravidian style whereas Madurai is rightly named as the temple city of India with spiritual hubs like Sree Meenakshi Amman Temple, Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple, Koodal Azhagar Temple, etc.
For the lovers of hill stations, nothing is as fascinating as a visit to Ooty. With places like Botanical Gardens, Tea Factory and Tea Factory – Ooty promises you plenty of flora and soul soothing aura.

Food of Tamil Nadu has a typical local flavour. Rice, legumes and lentils are consumed extensively here. Some of the must try dishes of the state are Uttapam, Sambar, Dosa, Idli, Vada, Rasam, and Paruppu Payasam. Coconut remains a major ingredient in all these dishes.

Tamil Nadu is a paradise for shopping lovers. From Chennai you can buy embroidered saris of silk and cotton fabrics. Mahabalipuram’s sculptures, ancient art and craft and exquisite woodcarvings are also must buy items. Madurai is known for readymade silk and cotton garments.

How to reach

Chennai International Airport is a major airport in the city. Other major airports are in Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, and Coimbatore. The state has a vast road network and thus, it is easier to visit here by taking private and state owned buses. Also, Chennai is a major junction on the Southern Railways followed by Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, Salem, and Coimbatore.
