Turquoise water, rustling palms and picturesque beaches; welcome to the smallest yet charming Union territory in India, Lakshadweep.   • Kavaratti

Kavaratti is the capital city and principal town of Lakshadweep adorned with white-sand beaches and unruffled lagoons. Over 52 mosques dot the city of which Ujra mosque is the most beautiful and the main attraction. See an enchanting underwater life at the Marine Aquarium. And take it to the next level with scuba diving at the Dolphin Dive centre.

  • Kalpeni

It is one of the most beautiful touristic islands of the territory. It hosts a myriad of adventurous water sports. The lush vegetation and brimming fauna add to its enchanting beauty. Potter around and you are likely to see local women draped in cultural attire 'Sarongs'. The folk dances are Kolkali and Parichakkali, reflect its cultural delights.

  • Agatti

Agatti is the gateway of Lakshadweep boasting its only airport. Located to the west of Kavaratti, it has a lagoon with an area of 17.50 sq km. The deep blue waters abound with corals and multi-colored coral fishes. The tranquil atmosphere and eye soothing scenery will offer you a relaxing holiday.

  • Bangaram

The unmatchable island beauty of Bangaram reminds you of the delightfully dreamy wallpapers. Take a break and immerse in its beauty of the coral reef and blue lagoons. It is particularly famous for the unique phosphorescent planktons which make the beach glow at night.

  • Minicoy

It is the second largest and southernmost island with one of the largest lagoons in Lakshadweep. Owing to the population it is an ideal place to know about the local culture. Take a tour of carefully arranged villages, known as ‘Avah’. Hike through dense coconut groves, tour tuna canning factory and see the authentic race boats called Jahadhoni.

  • Kadmath

Long and narrow in shape, this island is known for the beautiful shallow lagoon that forms an ideal spot for water sports. Its long sandy beaches and small sand banks on the southern tip entice visitors for sun bath. Away from the cacophony of cities, it is a perfectly cozy hideout.

What to eat

The multi-cuisine restaurants of the archipelago serve myriad of seafood delicacies.  Coconut is the chief ingredient used for cooking purposes in households. The unmissable dishes are delicacies of Tuna fish, rayereha and sannath.

What to shop

The main occupation of the people is fishing, coconut cultivation and coir twisting. The locals are skilled in making aesthetic handicrafts of seashells and oysters shells; you should definitely buy these. Coconut shells and tortoise shells based crafts are also popular among tourists.

How to reach

By Air- Agatti airport established in Agatti Island is the only airport in Lakshadweep. It handles direct flights from Kochi.

By Ship- Seven passenger ships operate on a regular basis between Kochi and Lakshadweep islands.

By Road- The island destination presently has no road connectivity.
