Rajasthan is home to some of the richest Indian cities in terms of history, cultures and traditions.
Start your holiday by visiting Jaipur, the capital city. The city is home to some of the most magnificent historical wonders. Visit City Palace flaunting a mix of Rajput, Mughal and European architectural styles. Hawa Mahal of Jaipur also charms visitors with its 953 small windows called jharokhas which look incredible. Jal Mahal of the city looks like a dream placed in the middle of the stunning ‘Man Sagar Lake’.  Also, do not miss a visit to Amer Fort, a unique masterwork of the Rajputana architecture.

The city of Udaipur is known for housing the most striking Rajputana Style architectural wonders. The City Palace of Udaipur, which was once residence of the royal Mewar family, is a must visit with interiors like Daawat-i-Aam, Daawat-i-Khas and Maharani Palace. Spend some time at the banks of Lake Pichola for some charismatic views of the neighbouring wonders. Do not miss a romantic evening boat ride on this lake.

The Sun City of Rajasthan, Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha Singh of Marwar. The city evokes images of Mehrangarh Fort standing 400 feet above the city with its fortified walls. Umaid Bhawan Palace of the city, which has now been transformed into a heritage hotel, makes many jaws drop with its 347 massive adorned rooms. Other pleasing attractions of Udaipur are Jaswant Thada, Mandore Gardens, Kailana Lake, Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, etc.

To experience the world of desert, nothing is as charming as Jaisalmer, the desert city of Rajasthan. Visit here for a memorable Sam Sand Dunes experience amidst the Thar Desert. Enjoy camel rides on the shimmering desert sands and enjoy overnight stay in camps. Jaisalmer Fort of the city, made of golden and yellow mixed sandstone, is also a wonderful treasure trove of history. This living fort is home to havelis, Laxminath temple, Jain temples, etc. Also visit Patwon-Ki-Haveli with five-storeys and large corridors.

The cultural richness of Rajasthan can be experienced by visiting Bikaner. Junagarh Fort here presents a beautiful mix of Mughal, Gujarati and Rajput styles of architecture. It is home to various spectacular sections like Anup Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Dungar Mahal, Diwan-e-khas and Ganga Mahal. Lalgarh Palace of Bikaner also attracts history lovers with its remarkable stories from the past.  Also, spend some time in the holy city of Pushkar known for being home to one of the rarest temples of Lord Brahma on the planet.
Hill station lovers can plan their holidays in Mount Abu situated in the Aravalli mountain range. It is a spectacular retreat from summer heat and lets you relish matchless views of nature all around.

What to eat

Rajasthan’s richness clearly shows in the food served here. Dal Bati Churma is a must try dish made with round baked bread and served with lentil curry and butter. Laal Maas (red meat) is loved by non vegetarians. Gatte ki Sabzi (gram flour dumplings) is a popular dish cooked in every household. Rajasthanis love kachoris with a variety of stuffing. Rajasthani Kadi can make anyone fall for gluttony with its pungent and spicy flavours. Those with sweet tooth must savour the taste of Ghevar made with corn flour, fried in ghee and dipped in sugar syrup.

What to shop

Shopping in Rajasthan is all about exploring local cultures closely. The local markets here flood with Rajasthani clothing, jewellery, tie and die fabrics, Bandhani dupattas, handicrafts and traditional goods.  Some of the must explored markets here are Johari Bazar and Bapu Bazar of Jaipur, Bada Bazar and Hathi Pol Bazar of Udaipur, Sadar Bazar of Jaisalmer, Clock Tower Market of Jodhpur, and Mahatma Gandhi Road of Bikaner.

How to reach

The main airport of the state is in Jaipur serving both domestic and international flights. Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur have domestic airports. Rajasthan has a vast rail network and thus, visiting here by train is a good option. Road travel is also a preferred choice among travellers planning holidays to Rajasthan.
