Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is the largest city of Gujarat located on the serene banks of Sabarmati River. Established by Muslim ruler Sultan Ahmed Shah, it is the first UNESCO World Heritage City of India. Sabarmati Ashram

Also called Gandhi Ashram, it was one of the residences of legendary Mahatma Gandhi. It is now a national monument with a museum, displaying his works. The memorabilia collection includes 'charkha' used by Gandhi and the writing table he used for writing letters. Walking tours are organized for visitors that help in understanding sections efficiently like Vinoba Kutir, Magan Niwas, Upasana Mandir, Hridaya Kunj and Somnath Chattralaya.

Kankaria Lake

The second largest lake in Ahmedabad is much more than its size and beauty. The expansive lake with an island, Nagina Wadi and a lakefront with numerous recreational activities will keep you engaged whole day. Adalaj StepWell

Built in 1498, this stepwell is a fine specimen of Indian Solanki architecture. To reach here, you need to take a bus to Adalaj village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. The stepped well is five-stories deep with an octagonal pattern at the mouth. You can't resist admiring the intricate wall carvings. The most distinguishable ones to catch your eyes are the depictions of the Ami Khumbor and the Kalp Vriksha.

Jama Masjid

Built-in 1423 by Ahmed Shah I, the mosque was used by the royals of Sultan. It is an undeniably mesmerizing Indo-Saracenic architecture entirely made of yellow sandstone. The massive structure features 260 pillars supporting the roof of the main prayer hall and 15 domes. The fusion of Hindu and Jain art forms multiplies its beauty. If you have an eye for art, notice some domes flaunting lotus and hanging bell patterns.

Sidi Saiyed Mosque

The eponymous building is one of the most impeccable mosques of Ahmedabad built by Sid Saiyyed himself. For those interested in art, it is a sought after attraction due to its tasteful beautifying features. The interiors are enriched with eye-catching ten intricately carved lattice windows. The most striking lattice screen is the one displaying a tree intertwined with foliage. Interestingly, it is used as the symbol of the city.

By Rail- Ahmedabad railway station, locally known as Kalupur station, is the main terminus with 11 other minor railheads.
By Road- The main bus stands are located at Gitamandir near Kalupur Railway Station and Paldi.
