Agra

Agra, once the seat of Mughal Empire, is a serene city adorned with Mughal architectural wonders. Of which, three are noted UNESCO World Heritage sites. Taj Mahal is the quintessential structure that reflects the unmatchable taste of Mughals in art and architecture. In addition to its cultural heritage, the city is also highly famous for the sweetmeat Petha, made of white pumpkin. With a string of age-old monuments, popular eateries and shopping streets, it is a wonderful city.

What to see

It lets you enter through the giant gateway embellished with inscribed Arabic calligraphy. Find yourself overlooking the majestic structure with a mausoleum enclosed within four minarets. The Char Bagh before it adds to its invincible beauty. It redefines art with features like latticework, floral motifs, murals and pietra dura scrollwork.

Agra Fort

It is a red colored fort made of red sandstone and is located close to Taj Mahal. It is one of the best structures that are powerful enough to take you right back to the Mughal era. The grandiose has four gates, of which the main ones are Delhi Gate and Amar Singh Gate. Rediscover its notable buildings with ingenious features like Jahangiri Mahal, Shahjahani Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Muthamman Burj.

Fatehpur Sikri

Located at a distance of 35 km from Agra, it is a commendable example of Indo-Islamic architecture. The conspicuous feature is the enormous gateway viz. Buland Darwaja. Itimad-Ud-Daulah

The scenic backdrop of Yamuna River adds to its beauty. Some features that are obvious to the eyes are evident use of white marble, pietra-dura work, inlay designs and latticework. The distinguishable trait is square ‘Barahdari’ in the place of the dome which defies the common dome-based Mughal tombs.
