Alleppey

Currently named Alappuzha, the famous backwater paradise of Kerala continues to be popularly recognized by its former name Alleppey. Vembanad lake

Oodles of backwaters and canals in Alleppey drain into Vembanad Lake making it the largest lake of Kerala and the longest lake in India. You can taste its beauty in a number of ways like boating, fishing and sightseeing. Onam festival makes it a centre of attention with the exhilarating Snake Boat Races. Watching the vying boats for winning Nehru Trophy is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Alleppey Beach

Or Alappuzha beach is one of the prominent attractions famous for its bewitching beauty. In addition to its charm, it will leave you in awe of its 150-year-old pier extending to the sea. Another attention grabber is the historic site, Alleppey lighthouse. Kids will love swimming and watching the distant ships sliding in and out.

Marari beach

One of the spectacular beaches of Alleppey, Marari beach is particularly famous for breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset. Its soul-satisfying beauty is declared one of the world's top five Hammock Beaches by National Geographic survey. Laze around and forget everything for a while relaxing in its tranquil beauty.

Mullakkal Temple

This 500-year-old temple dedicated to Goddess Durga is a fascinating reminder of the past. It is locally known as Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple, named after the enshrined idol of four-armed goddess Durga known as ‘Mullakkal Devi’. Admire the typical age-old Keralan architecture and feel the bliss in its calm air.

St. Andrew's Basilica, Arthunkal

Earlier, it was a church built by a Portuguese vicar, whom devotees fondly called Arthunkal Veluthachan. The status was raised from Arthunkal St Andrews Forane Church to Basilica in the year 2010. It is the 7th basilica in Kerala. Make sure you see the statue of St. Sebastian (sculptured in Milan) which was brought here in 1647.
