Kochi

Kochi, also known as Cochin, is a major port city in Kerala packed with sublime landscapes and cultural wealth. Chinese Fishing Nets

Serving as the symbol of the city, the fishing nets are a part of a unique fishing technique introduced by the Chinese explorers. It uses bamboo and teak poles to hold the nets which are then suspended into the sea to catch fishes. Make sure you visit this iconic landmark and take pictures of these historic nets.

Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica

Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica is one of the eight basilicas of Kerala located in Fort Kochi. Built by the Portuguese, it serves as the Cathedral church of the Diocese of Cochin. Spend time inside this rustic edifice that will surely enthrall you with its splendid architecture and gothic style features.

Mattancherry Palace

If art and architecture intrigue you, then this palace is the right place for you. People come here to witness its classic Nalukettu style, the traditional Kerala style of architecture. A walk inside this two-storied structure amazes with Kerala murals adorning the walls, which depict the portraits of the Rajas of Kochi.

Jewish Synagogue

Paradesi Synagogue, Cochin Jewish Synagogue and the Mattancherry Synagogue, there are many names by which this oldest active synagogue in Commonwealth is recognized. It now serves as a museum that offers an insight into the culture of Jewish people in the old times. The exhibits range from 4th-century copper plates with Malayalam inscriptions, gold crowns received as gifts and rug gifted to the last Ethiopian Emperor.

St. Francis Church

For those inclined to history, St. Francis Church is heaven, as it is one of the oldest European churches in India. Visit this silent yet powerful structure that showcases majestic Portuguese architecture. It is the burial site of famous Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama, who died in Kochi in 1524. However, his remains were later transferred to Lisbon.
