Ajmer

Ajmer is one of the arcane cities of Rajasthan widely known for the revered Ajmer Sharif Dargah. The city lies at the centre of the state majestically ringed by Ana Sagar Lake and the Aravalli hills. The touristic town Pushkar is located just 11 km away, which also makes Ajmer famous as its gateway. With galore of interesting spots like Mayo College, historic Jain temple and alluring Foy Sagar Lake it will rivet you by offering multifarious experience.

What to see

Ajmer Sharif Dargah

Built in the 13th century, it is the tomb of the revered Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. The shrine is the most famous attraction in Ajmer. You can enter it through three gates - the Nizam gate, the Shah Jahan gate and the Buland Darwaza. After taking the blessing, have the wholesome food offered as Prasad to its visitors.

Soni Ji Ki Nasiyaan

Also known as Ajmer Jain Temple, it is an ornate Jain temple dedicated to Risabh or Adinath. It was built in the late 19th century with a beautiful entrance made of red sandstone. The striking feature is its main chamber viz. Swarna Nagri (City of Gold) which has walls adorned with several gold-plated wooden figures.

Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda

Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda is a beautiful specimen of Indo-Islamic architecture from the late 19th century. The name meaning 'Hut of Two and a Half Days' was given to it for two-and-a-half days celebrated Urs (death anniversary) event during the 18th century. It was originally built as a Sanskrit college but was later converted into a mosque by Muhammad Ghori. However, you can still find traces of Hindu and Jain features.

Taragarh Fort

One of the best things about visiting Ajmer is that it boosts the travel experience at every step. This beautiful fort stands in tandem introducing you to the remarkable Rajputana architecture. Sitting atop a hill, it will monopolize your attention with Garbh Gunjam canon, Rani Mahal and Miran Saheb ki Dargah (who was Governor of the fort).

Pushkar

Pushkar is a famous pilgrimage site of Hindu and Sikhs, located nearly 10 km away. The small town boasting sacred Pushkar Lake is replete with temples and ghats. The most famous is Brahma temple distinguished by a red spire. A must have experience is a dip in the lake which also holds religious importance.

How to reach

By Air- The nearest airport is Kishangarh Airport, nearly 30 km away. The cabs are easily available outside the airport that will drop you at Ajmer.

By Rail- It is well connected by rail with Ajmer junction as the main railway station.

By Road- The city is easily accessible by a good network of roads. Buses from the state capital, Jaipur are regularly plied to Ajmer.
