Jaisalmer Fort

The eponymous fort is the symbol of Jaisalmer built by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 AD. Resting at the top of a hill, its radiating golden color emanating from yellow sandstone can be seen from far away. Take in the special architecture of the fort and appreciate striking features like bastions, colossal gateways, Raj Mahal Palace and Jain Temples. Do not miss the unique feature of drainage system called the Ghut nali.

Patwon-Ki-Haveli

Apart from the jaw-dropping fort, Jaisalmer is recognized for its ancient mansions called Haveli. There are many but the most famous is Patwon-Ki-Haveli, a group of five mansions. It is a lavish mansion that keeps many fascinating stories between its walls. Take a walk and unfold the magnificent features such as mirror works, paintings, lattice work and over 60 balconies.

Gadisar Lake

It is a rainwater lake built in the 14th century by Maharawal Gadsi Singh to meet the water needs. Today, it is counted among the top places of interest in Jaisalmer. The bank is beautified with multiple temples and ghats. The best way to soak in its beauty is by taking a boat ride. Drift by the placid waves and let your gaze pass through inhabiting catfishes, mesmerizing sunset or sunrise and beautiful temples.

Nathmal-ki-Haveli

Jaisalmer is noted for its enchanting havelis and Nathmal-ki-Haveli is a masterpiece among them. It is a blend of twin symmetrical structures built by two architect brothers in the 19th century. Explore the classic antiquity known for the miniature style paintings and tuskers carved out of yellow sandstone.

Salim Singh-ki-Haveli

Make sure you visit this haveli which is distinguished by an eye-catching high arched roof with brackets replicating the peacock patterns. You will feel stuck in the past with its typical fine carvings denoting golden era. The blue cupola rooftop and nearly 35 balconies are other mind-blowing things to see.

By Air – Jodhpur airport is the nearest airport to Jaisalmer, located 284 km away. Thereon, you can take a cab or bus to reach Jaisalmer.

By Rail – Jaisalmer Railway Station serves the city offering direct trains to cities like Delhi, Jodhpur and Jaipur. For a royal experience, you can ride the famous luxury train ‘Palace on wheels’ which also covers Jaisalmer.

By Road – The city has a well-maintained network of roads that extend to all major cities.
